Housing in the New River Valley – Session 1, Regional + Local Housing Study
April 27 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
One of the four central themes of the NRV Livability Plan is Enhancing Living and Working Environments with goals and strategies to address housing, energy, and transportation issues and affordability across all ages and income levels. Since the plan’s release in 2014, housing has only become more important, affecting every resident and impacting both economic and community development.
As a follow-up to the Annual Livability in Action Exchange, the NRV Livability Initiative will hold issue-specific events, beginning with housing. The first session on April 27th focuses on the Regional + Local Housing Study while the second on May 25th focuses on the NRV Housing Resource Guide. The New River Valley Regional Commission, in partnership with the Virginia Center for Housing Research at Virginia Tech, recently completed a study to look at housing conditions and reinvestment, the adequacy and appropriateness of the NRV’s housing stock for various income levels and ages, the availability of housing, and strategies to address our region’s housing challenges. This first session in the series will provide an overview of the study’s key findings, followed by questions and discussion.
