Health & Wellness in the New River Valley – Session 2, Healthy Roots NRV
October 26, 2021 @ 9:00 am – 10:00 am
One of the four central themes of the NRV Livability Plan is Building Healthy Communities with goals and strategies to address access to and the cost of healthcare, recreation and nutrition, early childhood education and development, and environmental quality. Since the plan’s release in 2014, we have learned even more as a region about the many factors affecting both individual and community health.
As a follow-up to the Annual Livability in Action Exchange, the NRV Livability Initiative will hold issue-specific events, with our next series focused on health and wellness. The first session on September 21st focuses on the findings of the 2021 Community Health Assessment. Addressing the issues identified in the assessment requires a collaborative approach, with business, local governments, and nonprofits working together.
Started in 2019, Healthy Roots NRV is a network of individuals and organizations dedicated to improving health and well-being in the New River Valley. It draws together existing collaborative efforts in healthcare, childcare, food access, and more, and provides the staffing and coordination needed to take an effective, regional approach to health and wellness challenges. This second session will provide an overview of Healthy Roots NRV and ways to get involved.
