There are few roads in the New River Valley (NRV) that do not have a house for which Kent Quesenberry of Riner did the plumbing. As a Master Plumber and Class B contractor, Kent could often be seen leaning on his shovel at a worksite, taking the time to get to know everyone and to pass along advice and encouragement.
The Community Foundation of the New River Valley’s (CFNRV) online scholarship application is now open. Through the generosity of many donors, in 2024, the CFNRV will give out more than $100,000 in scholarships to New River Valley students.
The Blue Collar Scholarship Fund was established in November 2022 in memory of Kent Quesenberry and will provide scholarships to students in the New River Valley from blue collar families who are pursuing a post-secondary degree at a 2 or 4-year college, university, trade, or technical school.
This spring, the Community Foundation gave out $141,066 in scholarships to 81 students living or studying in the New River Valley (NRV), including 20 who are first in their family to attend college. The CFNRV will celebrate with the scholarship recipients and their loved ones at a luncheon on May 7.
Students are encouraged to apply to scholarships through the Community Foundation of the New River Valley (CFNRV) before its scholarship application closes on January 30. This year, the CFNRV will give out more than $100,000 to New River Valley students, with each scholarship award ranging from $500 – $4,000.
