The Fund for the NRV at the Community Foundation of the New River Valley (CFNRV) supports community collaboration to develop lasting solutions to our region’s most pressing needs. The Fund allows the CFNRV to incentivize collaboration and invest in regional projects that will be of lasting benefit to NRV residents. It combines the CFNRV’s capacity building and convening functions with our grant-making to maximize the impact of our charitable dollars. The Fund for the NRV enables the CFNRV to make larger scale, more impactful investments through five initiatives. NRV Thrive enhance access to fresh foods. First Steps invests in early childhood education and development. Aging in Community encourage lifespan friendly homes, neighborhoods, and services, with a focus on senior citizens “Aging in Place”. The Nonprofit Leadership Institute provides professional development workshops and trainings for nonprofit team members.

Each year, each NRV locality hosts a Family Fun Day. These are free events for families that feature games, activities, and resources.
In late September, First Steps, an initiative of the Community Foundation of the New River Valley (CFNRV), celebrated early childhood educators and advocates at the fifth annual Early Childhood Champion Awards. First Steps is a network of more than 60 New River Valley (NRV) organizations that support young children and families through education, childcare, healthcare, advocacy, and more.
