February 15, 2024: The sign-up for the 11th Annual Online GiveLocalNRV Giving Day is now open at givelocalnrv.org. Hosted by the Community Foundation of the New River Valley (CFNRV), this event harnesses the generosity of the New River Valley (NRV) community by raising funds and awareness for nonprofits serving our region. The giving day will be held from noon on Wednesday, June 26 to noon on Thursday, June 27.
2023 was filled with accomplishments and milestones. Each step of the way, donor support fueled our efforts and guided our work. Our grants and scholarships as well as the collaborative initiatives we lead focused on food access, early childhood education, and health are made possible by gifts to The Fund for the NRV.
There are few roads in the New River Valley (NRV) that do not have a house for which Kent Quesenberry of Riner did the plumbing. As a Master Plumber and Class B contractor, Kent could often be seen leaning on his shovel at a worksite, taking the time to get to know everyone and to pass along advice and encouragement.
This fall, the CFNRV awarded a total of $230,225 through its Responsive Grants program to 69 nonprofits serving the New River Valley. Since 2002, the foundation has awarded more than $7 million in grants.
At the CFNRV, our goal is to make giving easy and joyful for donors. Our team makes it our mission to understand the priorities and needs in the New River Valley, so we can help donors support our community in ways that align with their philanthropic interests – both now and for generations.
The Community Foundation of the New River Valley’s (CFNRV) online scholarship application is now open. Through the generosity of many donors, in 2024, the CFNRV will give out more than $100,000 in scholarships to New River Valley students.

In late September, First Steps, an initiative of the CFNRV, celebrated 14 early childhood educators and advocates at the third annual Early Childhood Champion Awards.
The Blue Collar Scholarship Fund was established in November 2022 in memory of Kent Quesenberry and will provide scholarships to students in the New River Valley from blue collar families who are pursuing a post-secondary degree at a 2 or 4-year college, university, trade, or technical school.
