Early Giving Now Open for the 10th Annual GiveLocalNRV Giving Day

Blacksburg, Virginia; June 7, 2023: Early giving is now open for the Community Foundation of the New River Valley (CFNRV)’s 10th Annual GiveLocalNRV Giving Day, a 24-hour online event that engages nonprofits in raising funds and awareness for their organizations. This year’s event, hosted by the CFNRV, will kick off at noon on Wednesday, June 28, and end at noon on Thursday, June 29, but nonprofits can fundraise throughout the month of June during the early giving period.

More than 100 nonprofits are registered this year and collectively, the goal is to raise at least $500,000. Since 2014, the New River Valley community has rallied around this annual event with thousands of donors giving a total of $2.6 million to dozens of nonprofits. Fueling the excitement of the day are incentive grants and prizes provided by the CFNRV and its generous sponsors totaling more than $25,000. One organization will be selected to win an episode of Buzz4Good which airs weekly on Blue Ridge PBS and features the work of regional nonprofits to generate more “buzz” for their missions.

“We have supported GiveLocalNRV since it began 10 years ago,” said Brad Denardo, President of the National Bank of Blacksburg. “The New River Valley is home to many incredible nonprofit organizations; all working together through GiveLocalNRV to tell their stories and raise money for their important work. As a community bank, we have been particularly proud to offer a matching gift each year to the Fund for the NRV at the Community Foundation, which is the engine that makes this annual giving day and so many other regional programs possible.”

There are a wide variety of nonprofits participating this year, including organizations focused on areas such as education, arts and culture, poverty, animals, civic affairs, health, the environment, and more. These nonprofits serve the counties of Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, Pulaski, and Wythe as well as the city of Radford.

Jessica Wirgau, the CFNRV’s Chief Executive Officer, is excited to celebrate this milestone year, “We started the GiveLocalNRV giving day 10 years ago to give nonprofits a place to raise funds and to give donors a single place to learn about and support the many amazing causes benefiting our community. It is incredibly gratifying to see how innovative and dedicated the participating nonprofits are each year, and to see the number of gifts, donors, and sponsors grow over time.”

This year’s generous sponsors of GiveLocalNRV are: National Bank of Blacksburg, Atlantic Union Bank, First Bank and Trust, Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, Carter Bank and Trust, Olio Financial Planning, Automation Creations, Inc., Legacy Builders NRV, Meridian Bird Removal, Virginia Community Capital, Brown, Edwards, and Co. LLP, Jim and Sue McAlister, 5 Points Creative, Buzz4Good, NRV Magazine, and Wordsprint.
